Dancing with the Hampton Roads Celebrity Stars

The 8TH annual fundraising event to benefit Virginia Musical Theatre and The Governor’s School for the Arts, DANCING WITH THE HAMPTON ROADS CELEBRITY STARS, will take place at 7:00pm on Saturday, August 20th, 2022 at the beautiful Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in the Town Center are of Virginia Beach.

 

Based on the hit TV show, twenty-two local contestants, made up of business leaders, media celebrities, civic and political leaders and other various professionals with limited or no ballroom dance experience will be paired with a professional dancer/choreographer from several of our area dance schools, including Arthur Murray, A Time to Dance, Baila Fuzion Dance Center, Marie Rants Ballroom Company and Just Dance On, to prepare a ballroom dance routine to perform before a live audience and professional judges.

 

The producer of DANCING WITH THE HAMPTON ROADS CELEBRITY STARS is local entrepreneur Barbara Lewis, owner of the Town Center City Club and past owner of Charm Associates.  The show will be directed by Mark Hudgins, the Executive Director of Virginia Musical Theatre.  Joe Flannagan will again serve as Master of Ceremonies for this year’s event.

 

This year’s event is dedicated to our local Military Veterans and Police. An exhibition number by active former military veterans will be one of the highlights of the event.  A number of the Celebrity Dancers this season are military veterans, as well as an two active duty Virginia Beach Police Officers.

 

This annual event has raised over half a million dollars for local art’s groups since its inception in 2014.  Virginia Musical Theatre, The Governor’s School for the Arts, The Virginia Symphony, The Little Theatre of Virginia Beach, Virginia Beach Sister Cities, and Symphonicity are a few of the arts groups that have benefitted from this event.

Tickets to the event cost $50 and are tax-deductible.  The doors open at 6:30PM on Saturday, August 28th and all seating is General Seating.  There are handicapped seats available on all levels.
